Welcome to Volunteers' Project

What we did

The aim of the project is to support migrant communities who reside locally to start volunteering. Volunteers expanded their networks and gained work experience while improving their employability, social and leadership skills. The Welcome Volunteers Project started in May 2019 as part of the Awards for All Lottery Funding

The benefits of the project included helping to reduce the risk of social exclusion and inequalities amongst these communities.

Impact

The project was a success with many volunteers who gained vital skills including permanent employment. The volunteers not only acquired vital skills, but they also made the move into permanent employment as a direct result of their involvement in the project.

By equipping individuals with the necessary tools and support to thrive in their new environment, the project has made a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of migrant communities, empowering them to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

My Life My community

Impact

As of 2024, the impact of My Life, My Community continues to resonate within migrant communities, empowering individuals to integrate into society and thrive in their new environment. Through the support of Awards for All Lottery Funding (TNL Community), the project has facilitated significant positive outcomes, including the acquisition of vital skills and transition into permanent employment for many participants.

Ghanian Independence Day 2024

We were thrilled to participate in the dynamic festivities commemorating Ghana’s 67th Independence Day, a vibrant celebration brimming with cultural splendour, rhythmic melodies, and captivating performances. Taking place on March 11, 2024, right here in Birmingham, this event served as a jubilant tribute to Ghanaian heritage and national pride.

As guests, we fully immersed ourselves in the rich tapestry of Ghanaian culture, relishing the enticing aromas of traditional cuisine, swaying to the infectious beats of Ghanaian music, and admiring the graceful movements showcased in the energetic dances.

It was a privilege to witness the strong sense of unity and camaraderie among the Ghanaian community, as they came together to honour their nation’s path to independence. Through this spirited celebration, we gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for Ghana’s cultural richness, resilience, and spirit of celebration.

Attending the Ghanaian Independence Day festivities in Birmingham was more than just a cultural excursion; it was a joyous testament to diversity, unity, and the bonds that connect us all. We eagerly anticipate future celebrations that will continue to showcase the enduring beauty and vitality of Ghanaian culture.
